Is it supposed to be two colors like that? I mean, I'm not really as big on naming nature as you are...are all of these kinds of flowers colored like that? It's beautiful.

"Supposed to?" Hah! It doesn't have a name; it just is. I don't know where it came from. I'm thinking of getting rid of most of the grass in my yard and letting wild stuff just go. It seems better that way. More surprises.

But it's a tulip, you got that part, right? And obviously the parents of this tulip were two different colored tulips and they rubbed up against each other and, well, yes. You see where this is going, don't you? Plants are poems without the words. Of course, there's a lot more going on in this picture besides that.

The thing about tulips that took me a few years to realize is that unlike other bublbs and perennials that grow and multiply, tulip bublbs have a life span. So my red beauties that used to line the front of my house are so sad. I think I might only get one this year. I need to think of something else.
