Looking Out My Back Door

My messy nature.

Miss Honey Pie Chicken eating her breakfast.

It all goes a little wild this time of the year. The volunteer cherry tomatoes are crowding everything, including this hisbiscus Yolanda gave me a few years ago. To the left of the hibiscus is one of Gene's hops plants that he started this year.

Lovely. I wish I could have a chicken. I think the dog would get along, but not sure about the cats.

My cats are afraid of Honey Pie, or at least reasonably cautious of her. She's not above pecking their toes if she's hungry. She's not above pecking my toes if she's hungry. We used to have many more chickens and even ducks, but wilder creatures stole them away, hawks... Honey is the lone survivor of our tame fowl. Tom rates Honey Pie as the most amazing chicken of all time. They often eat lunch together on the back porch.

Where does she stay in the winter? And I'm assuming your yard is fenced in. I've seen chickens wander yards in the country, but I'd think that would'nt work so well in town.

We have an acre, partially fenced. She can come and go as she pleases, but she mostly pleases to stay in the fence. She sleeps at night with the goats, winter and summer, in their little mini barn.
