The Finlander was drafted to go to the Dominican Republic for the week. It seems he was the only one in his office with a passport and some things had to get done. Americans!
He left yesterday, Columbus Day, at 3:00 a.m., none to happy about it, even though it was on this very island that Columbus landed. What an opportunity! Or not. Today he sent me an e-mail:
"Picture a world with no rules and hotter than F&#k"
Sounds like he's having a fabulous time. He should definitely try to get a job with the tourism bureau.
I think the ancient Finnish explorers, such as they were, headed for more northern climes.

Do you know how jealous my husband is of just such a trip? A chance to use his spanish, be in warm, sunny weather (not that we've had much time to miss it) and be able to afford it.
Gene can't wait to come home. The ocean is across the street, but the traffic is so horrible he won't cross it. He speaks no Spanish. There are beggars and panhandlers everywhere. His driver drops him off at the hotel and he runs in and doesn't leave. He's afraid of being mugged. And of course he hates any weather above 75 degrees!
I think it's good for him to see the world, but he's not so sure.
I've never been to the Dominican Republic but I can attest to the vulnerable feeling in an unfamiliar place. Jamaica, although beautiful, is not the safest places to vacation. We were warned when we went to never get into a cab other than specially marked government cabs. Tourists have been killed.
How's that for a, "Welcome to our little island," speech?
I'd certainly wouldn't be staying in the hotel the whole time but I can understand. Poor Gene. Tell him next time I'll go instead. (Talia's husband isn't the only jealous one!)Ha
It is pretty ironic. The people who want to go have to stay home. Maybe this will motivate to learn Spanish. He's been vowing to do that for years. I think he would feel much more comfortable if he could at least understand a few words.
Ah, yes.
The tropics.
My kind of place.
Somehow, Greg, I get the feeling that you would agree with my husband on this topic. You Northern Midwestern types are this way ;-) As I recall, nothing makes you happier than a sweater.
Hey:
I can get very Jimmy Buffett, very Last-Mango-in-Paris, very fast.
:-)
Maybe I'm Finnish, I hate the heat too! Winter-yes, Summer-no.
You definitely look like a Finn!
I'll be there?
Say, what do you drink to celebrate the dead?
I don't know what you drink to celebrate DOTD. Maybe the car bomb thing.
