Amazing!

I wish I was there!

Yes. I was thinking of you when I posted this. You should make the trip sometime. Although, the monks often take trips in the winter to visit other monasteries, so summer is best. I interviewed them last year, attended their worship service, checked out the amazing icons. I really loved this icon of Jonah and the Fish. It was quite beautiful and nothing whale-like about it at all. Definitely a large fish. There is also a habit of touching the icon of the virgin with a thumb that I found fascinating. I'm not Catholic, let alone Byzantine, so I was like a little sponge.

Wow, Charmi. Where did you say this monastery was again? I need to go visit with some of my Byzantine friends...

Click on the link and you can read all about it. It's about 12 hours from here, though, in Michigan's U.P.
